October in Downtown Lake Stevens Happens on a Block Under Construction

October 8, 2026

On three Saturdays this October, the 10th, 17th and 31st, downtown Lake Stevens hosts a public event. All three are on the same short stretch of lakefront, between North Cove Park, The Mill and Mill Spur. The same stretch is also a construction zone. The park's picnic shelter and restrooms closed today for a rebuild, and the building going up next door on Mill Spur still has no opening date.

So this October, every event downtown has to work around the construction. Knowing where the work is, and when, makes each Saturday easier to plan.

The month at a glance

  1. Monday, October 5 through Friday, October 30. The North Cove Park picnic shelter and restrooms are closed.
  2. Saturday, October 10. The Greater Lake Stevens Chamber of Commerce holds its Harvest Market at North Cove Park and The Mill, 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Mill Spur is closed from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
  3. Saturday, October 17. Booked & Brewed comes to The Mill, 11 AM to 4 PM.
  4. Saturday, October 31. The City of Lake Stevens holds HarvestFest at North Cove Park, 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

October 5: the park's restrooms close

The City of Lake Stevens posted the notice on September 30. To make way for what it calls the "shelter bathroom construction project," the North Cove Park picnic shelter and restrooms are closed from October 5 through October 30, 2026. In the meantime, a portable restroom will sit in the parking lot next to the playground.

The notice doesn't describe what the new shelter and restrooms will look like, or why the work is happening now. It does give dates, and they matter here. Two of October's three Saturdays fall inside the closure. Anyone planning a long afternoon at the park, whether with small children, older relatives or a picnic under the shelter roof, should expect one portable restroom by the playground and an empty shelter.

The closure is scheduled to end on Friday, October 30, the day before HarvestFest. The City hasn't said whether the new facilities will be open by then or whether the end date is just when the closure lifts. Until the City posts an update, treat October 31 as unconfirmed.

October 10: the Harvest Market, which is a different event from HarvestFest

There are two harvest events in Lake Stevens this month, with nearly the same name and different hosts. The City clearly expected people to mix them up. When it announced HarvestFest on September 9, it added this line:

This event is separate from the Harvest Market on Saturday, October 10, which is hosted by the Greater Lake Stevens Chamber of Commerce.

The Harvest Market is an extra date the Chamber added on top of the farmers market's regular season. The Chamber says the City invited it to submit a proposal, and after working together the two agreed the Chamber would operate the market in partnership with the City for 2026. The regular season ran every Tuesday from June 2 through August 25, 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The Harvest Market moves to a Saturday, 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. It uses the same footprint as the Tuesday market, North Cove Park and The Mill.

The street closure lasts longer than the market. The City closes Mill Spur at North Cove Park on October 10 from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM. That covers four hours of vendor setup before the market opens and ninety minutes of teardown after it closes. The notice, posted today, does not suggest where to park or how to get around the closure. Anyone driving downtown that Saturday for something other than the market should plan for Mill Spur to be blocked most of the day.

The Chamber's market map lists a vendor roster that includes Amador Farms, Atomic Hummus, Auntie's Candies LLC, G&M Lemon Shakeups, Hey Elote and Lil House of Donuts. The map lets visitors pick a market date, and October 10 is one of the options. Selecting it is the most reliable way to check which vendors are booked for the Harvest Market. Questions about the market go to the Chamber at [email protected] or 425.830.2564.

On market day, the park restrooms will still be closed. The portable unit next to the playground is the only restroom the City has announced for the park.

October 17: The Mill hosts Booked & Brewed

The middle Saturday stays mostly at The Mill. Booked & Brewed runs from 11 AM to 4 PM with author meet-and-greets, signings, bookish vendors and shopping. The event listing gives the address as 1808 Main Street. Authors listed include Katie Monohan, Wren Nightingale, Jennie Bryant, Pandora, SYK Kelly and Joseph Gleason.

The Mill's address varies by listing. The Chamber gives 1806 Main St for the farmers market, and the City calendar lists a City Council special meeting on October 6 at 6:00 PM at "1808 Main Street (via Zoom)." Because the listings use two street numbers, a map search for "The Mill on Lake Stevens" will get you there more reliably than either address.

The park's restroom closure is still in effect on October 17. Because Booked & Brewed is at The Mill and not in the park, it's the Saturday least affected by the construction.

Mill Spur Yard: still being built

Across Mill Spur from the market tents, the City is putting up a new building. A September 16 report in the Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce says the city is "building a new home for the Lake Stevens Historical Museum." The museum will take about 3,600 square feet in a new three-story commercial building.

In May, the City named a retail tenant. Snohomish Pie Company plans its third location at Mill Spur Yard, next to North Cove Park, and the City gave an expected site completion of Fall 2026. In its July 10 update, the City reported the slab poured, framing up and grading refined. Still ahead were the exterior shell, siding, roofing, and mechanical, electrical and plumbing work.

It is now early October, and no source we found gives an opening date for the building or the pie shop. The latest report, the DJC story from mid-September, still describes it as under construction. "Fall 2026" was an estimate made in May. This October, the building will be framing and work fencing beside the Harvest Market and HarvestFest, not a place to stop for pie.

That puts the downtown in an in-between state this month. The new building is going up and the park's restrooms are being rebuilt, but the events go on in the same spots as usual.

October 31: HarvestFest

The month ends with the City's own event. HarvestFest is a free trick-or-treating event at North Cove Park on Halloween Saturday, October 31, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The City's flyer encourages costumes and lists crafts, big rigs, games, food trucks and candy. The flyer doesn't name any of the food trucks.

The flyer sets aside the first hour, 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, as sensory-friendly. For families who find a crowded, loud park hard to handle, that hour is the time to go.

HarvestFest is the only one of the three Saturdays that falls after the scheduled restroom closure. Questions go to the City's Parks Department at 425-622-9406 or [email protected].
